strategic alignment
I first came across a version of this image almost 20 years ago, in Peter Senge’s, The Fifth Discipline. I’ve seen various iterations since, and it embodies an idea that’s stuck with me ever since. Strategy is not just about setting a strategic direction for the organisation. Leaders at every level of the organisation need to be able to translate that strategy for their teams and ensure individuals work together as a whole. Incoherent actions can lead to wasted energy and frustration for everyone involved.
We use business simulations because they help leaders better understand complex issues and the organisation’s strategy. They can help leaders develop the capabilities needed to improve alignment and ensure coordinated action.
